Arizona Water Crisis
Olivia Lai's article on the drought status of Arizona explains the recent increase in water loss due to climate change has caused a tier 1 climate crisis for Arizonans. Lai says, "temperatures in Arizona have been steadily rising with average summer temperature now 1.8F (1C) higher compared to 1970. Over the same period, the state has recorded 6.2 more days that are above 110F (43C)"(Par 2). Az gets its water from the Colorado River, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell; recent reports for Nevada are also concerned as Lake Powell is a primary source for them as well. (Par 3)
As a resident of Airzona this is concerning as a basic necessity of life is water and humans can not live without water for approx. 3 days. This article was written a year ago and just a couple months back there have been news reports on Scottsdale's water( Link Below)
It's clear an Arizona needs to focus on these issues of water conservation; which is why Governor Doug Ducey has set a 1 billion-dollar budget to find new water sources for Airona. (Par 11) Lai uses a professional tone with facts and logic to create interesting and effective rhetoric for her article enabling the reader to easily grasp the purpose and cause for concern.
